Vilma Espín Guillois has died. She was a Cuban revolutionary, part of the National Leadership of the 26th of July Movement and president of the Federation of Cuban Women from its founding assembly in 1962 to the seventh in 2000. Granma carried a full report on her life which we reproduce here for the benefit of our readers.

Every year the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) welcomes the Latin American and Caribbean Voluntary Work Brigade, made up by delegations from Central America; Colombia; Ecuador; México; Peru, Venezuela and from the English and French Caribbean countries.

The Brigade is aimed at providing a wider understanding of Cuban reality and performing voluntary work sessions as a contribution to Cuban agricultural and productive sectors development. This year the programme runs from 30th July to 12th August 2007.

After several months of being off-line, the T&T Cuba Solidarity web site is back up and running.

It's taken a lot longer than we had planned but we hope, eventually, the wait will be worth it. So far, only the front page is up but we will be adding more as we go along.

So what have we done?

Well, for the technically minded we have started to use a Content Management System instead of direct XHTML coding. We are using an Open Source programme called Drupal. This meant upgrading our server as well and it all turned out to be a lot more complicated than we originally thought. All of this added to the delay in getting us back on stream - but we're here now.

For the not so technically minded, the main advantage is that we can upload news items more quickly and easily which helps to keep the information we are providing for you more current.

So keep checking back at regular intervals to see how the T&T Cuba Solidarity site will start expanding again.
